Why the ET401

A tablet staff carry all day, sealed for rain, dust and drops

The ET401 is Zebra's ET4 Series enterprise tablet, sold in an 8-inch and a 10.1-inch size. It keeps the thin, light shape of a consumer tablet but adds IP68 sealing, a replaceable battery and options for barcode scanning and RFID.

Two sizes, the same options

Choose the 8-inch (480 g) for staff who carry the tablet all day, or the 10.1-inch (680 g) for counters, forms and dashboards. Both have a 1920 × 1200 screen at 600 nits behind Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and the same processor, sealing and radio options.

Sealed to IP68, rated for drops to concrete

Zebra rates the ET401 for multiple 1.2 m drops to concrete, and 1.5 m with the optional rugged frame, per MIL-STD-810H. It is sealed to IP68 and works from -20 °C to 50 °C.

Scan with the camera, or add a scan engine or RFID

Every ET401 scans barcodes with its 16 MP rear camera. Add the SE4100 scan engine for standard-range scanning, or the SR500 for longer range and bright sunlight. Premium models add a built-in UHF RFID reader: Zebra rates it at more than 90 tags a second up to 1.2 m.

Wi-Fi 7 inside, 5G on the road

The ET401 runs on tri-band Wi-Fi 7 (2.4, 5 and 6 GHz). 5G models add one nano SIM and one eSIM, private 5G network support and dual-band GNSS for delivery and field staff. Bluetooth 6.0 pairs headsets and other peripherals.

Works with most of your ET40/ET45 accessories

Zebra says nearly all ET40/ET45 accessories work with the ET401, including its charging cradles, Presentation Stand and Workstation Connect cradle. The rugged boots differ: the ET401 has its own.

All-shift power, or no battery at a fixed station

The user-replaceable battery is 6,100 mAh (8-inch) or 7,600 mAh (10-inch). An expansion back adds a hot-swappable 3,400 mAh PowerPack for long shifts. In vehicles, kiosks and workstations the ET401 can run from external power with no battery fitted.

Used in

  • Retail stores (assisted selling, line busting, point of sale, inventory)
  • Hotels and restaurants (check-in, food ordering)
  • Transportation and logistics (routing and dispatch, vehicle inspection, proof of pickup and delivery)
  • Warehousing (manager device, inventory management)
  • Manufacturing (maintenance, repair and overhaul; quality assurance)

For buyers in India

Using the ET401 in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the ET401. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

Confirm the 5G bands for your SIM before you order a 5G model

Zebra publishes one band list for the ET401 and notes that support may vary by country and carrier; it names no India configuration. Tell us which operator your SIMs use, and we confirm the bands of the ET401 we quote.

Check the RFID version before you order an RFID model

Zebra lists the built-in UHF RFID reader in EU 865-868 MHz and US 902-928 MHz versions. Tell us the tags you use and where you read them, and we confirm the version in the quotation.

Ask for Zebra OneCare if you want Android updates

Zebra says a Zebra OneCare plan is needed to receive Android updates and security patches. Zebra lists Android 15 as available now and Android 19 as the final version; we add OneCare to the quotation when you ask.

Charge between 0 °C and 40 °C

Keep cradles indoors and out of direct sun: Zebra's reference guide rates battery charging from 0 °C to 40 °C, while the tablet itself works from -20 °C to 50 °C.

Exploring for a different use?

If your job differs from what the ET401 is built for, these Zebra models may fit it better:

  • Buyers who need a brighter, tougher 10-inch tablet for warehouses, vehicles or cold stores, often look at the Zebra ET60 / ET65 (1,000 nits, IP66, 1.5 m drops to concrete, SE55 scan engine option).
  • Buyers who want a phone-sized device that fits a pocket or holster often look at the Zebra TC22 / TC27 (6-inch screen, Wi-Fi 6E or 5G, SE4710 or SE55 scan engine).

Questions buyers ask

ET401 FAQ

What is the price of the Zebra ET401 in India?

The ET401 price depends on the screen size, Wi-Fi 7 or 5G, the scan engine or RFID option, and the accessories (cradles, spare batteries) and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

8-inch or 10-inch ET401: which one do we need?

Pick the 8-inch (480 g) for staff who hold the tablet for most of the shift: delivery, store floors, hotel check-in. Pick the 10.1-inch (680 g) for counters, POS stands, long forms and dashboards; only the 10-inch fits Zebra's Presentation Stand and VESA adapter. Both have the same screen resolution, processor, sealing and radio options.

Can we keep our ET40 or ET45 cradles and accessories?

Mostly, yes. Zebra says nearly all ET40/ET45 accessories work with the ET401, including the charging cradles, the Presentation Stand and the Workstation Connect cradle. The rugged boots are different, and Zebra's single-slot Power Delivery cradle is made for the ET401. Send us the list of what you have, and we quote only the missing pieces.

Do we need a separate barcode scanner?

Not for light scanning: every ET401 reads barcodes with its rear camera. For regular scanning, order a model with a scan engine. Zebra positions the SE4100 for low to moderate scanning at standard range, and the SR500 for bright sunlight and longer range: Zebra's reference guide gives a 20 mil Code 39 up to 102.6 cm with the SR500.

What is the ET401 Essentials?

Zebra also lists ET401 Essentials models with a lower specification: a 1280 × 800 screen at 350 nits, Wi-Fi 6E, IP65, camera scanning only and 0.91 m drops to vinyl tile over concrete. Zebra says they are not available in all regions, and some ET401 cradles do not fit them. Tell us which version a quote names, and we compare it for you.

How long will the ET401 get Android updates?

Zebra lists Android 15 as available now and Android 19 as the final supported version. Zebra says it sells the ET401 for four years from its first release and services it for four more, and that updates and security patches need a Zebra OneCare plan. Ask us to include OneCare if you plan a long rollout.

Can the ET401 run as a POS counter or kiosk?

Yes. The 10-inch fits Zebra's Presentation Stand, which turns between staff and customer, and the Point of Sale Connect Hub adds powered USB ports for receipt printers and scanners. The tablet can run from external power with no battery fitted. Tell us your billing or ordering software; software and ERP integration is part of our work.

Can Allmark install the ET401 and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the ET401 at your site, connect it to your ERP, warehouse or billing software (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
