The job

Each customer wants its own PO label and packing slip

One customer asks for the part number, drawing and PO number on every box; another wants the invoice number, item code and quantities in QR codes; your stores print a packing slip label, a box label and a shipping label for each consignment. Often these values already sit in an Excel sheet.

Keeping a designer file per customer and retyping the PO and invoice details each time is slow and easy to get wrong. ACE-UniLabel turns each customer's label file into its own print screen on the same PC, and can print the day's rows from your Excel sheet.

Retype in the label designerThe operator opens the label design and types each value before printing.A few labels a day in one format.Every value is retyped by hand; unless the designer is set to print only, the person printing may also change the layout, and there is often no record of who printed what.
Barcode font in Excel or WordA barcode font turns a cell into a barcode, printed through an office printer driver.Occasional labels on sheets. The font and driver must match the printer; thermal label printers and QR codes are harder this way.
Label designer linked to an Excel sheetThe label design reads a sheet, with counters and date offsets set up inside the design.Planned batches from a list.Someone has to keep the sheet link and the design settings working, and operators may work inside the design tool unless it offers a print-only form.
Labels printed from the ERPThe business system prints the label from its own record.Values that already live in the ERP.A new label format may need the ERP partner or your ERP team, and floor values such as a weight, a serial number or an inspector may not be in the ERP.
ACE-UniLabelOne print screen per customer label file, made from the file and a picture of the label; the day's values typed or taken from Excel rows. Many customer formats at one dispatch PC.One print screen per customer format; Excel rows checked against the label preview before printing; you decide who may change a screen; print history; it runs offline on the PC.

How ACE-UniLabel prints PO labels and packing slips

Turn an existing label file (.prn) and a picture of the printed label into a reusable operator print screen. These screens were made from the example labels above.

  • Each customer label becomes its own print screen, made from its label file and a picture of the printed label.
  • The operator fills the part, PO, invoice and quantity boxes; the captions stay as the customer set them.
  • With the Excel and work lists feature, load the day's rows from Excel, review each row against the label preview, and print the rows you tick.
  • On the invoice label, the print screen groups the boxes as product information and customer details.

Checklist

Before you choose dispatch label software

Ask these questions of any way of printing supplier and dispatch labels, ours included. At the demo we answer them on your own label.

  • Can one PC hold a print screen for each customer's format?
  • Can rows come from your Excel sheet and be checked against a preview before printing?
  • Can the operator fill the values without being able to move the layout?
  • Is there a record of what was printed, by whom and on which printer?
  • Does it keep working on the dispatch PC without the internet?

Questions buyers ask

Supplier and dispatch labels: questions

How do I print labels from Excel on a barcode printer?

With ACE-UniLabel's Excel and work lists feature, load changing label data from Excel, review each row against the label preview, and print selected or all valid pending rows. Workbooks are Excel .xlsx files; a work list also shows what changed in next month's sheet, and nothing applies until a supervisor approves it.

Can we keep the Excel label sheet we fill today?

Yes. Upload the workbook you already keep (.xlsx); each column is matched to its label box once per screen, so you do not build a new Excel label template. The rows print on your customer's own label layout, checked against the label preview first.

What goes on a PO label?

Usually the part number, drawing or revision, PO number, quantity and supplier, in the layout your customer asks for. ACE-UniLabel keeps that layout and asks the operator only for the values that change.

What goes on a packing slip label?

Usually the part name and number, batch, invoice number and quantity, cover and box quantities and the dispatch date, often with a QR code, as on the example label above.

Can one PC print labels for several customers?

Yes. Each customer label is its own print screen on the same PC, and the operator opens the one for the consignment.

Who can change a customer's label screen?

You control who can see, use, create, change or delete each print screen, and decide which role may view or edit each operator-entered field.

Which printers and scales does it work with?

Tested interoperability with selected OHAUS weighing-scale and GoDEX/TSC thermal-printer configurations. Compatibility is model- and configuration-dependent; confirmation is provided during solution assessment.
