Newland MT93-U UHF RFID handheld reader with pistol grip and Android touch screen

Why the MT93-U

Count tagged stock without line of sight

The MT93-U is the UHF RFID version of Newland's MT93 Android handheld. It keeps the MT93's 5.5-inch touch screen, Android 13 and 1D/2D barcode scanning, and adds a pistol grip with a trigger and a UHF RFID reader based on the Impinj E710 chip.

Reads many tags at once

Newland rates the read rate at 900 tags per second or more, and the read range at over 12 m indoors and over 8 m in open outdoor space, measured with an Alien 9740 tag. Newland notes that both figures depend on the tag and the surroundings.

Reads and writes Gen 2 tags

The reader works with EPC Class 1 Gen 2 (ISO 18000-6C) tags and writes tags from 0 to 3 m. Newland's pre-installed UHF app can filter, read, write, lock and kill tags, and can send the EPC of a tag as keyboard input to your own app.

Adjustable reader power

A circularly polarised 4 dBi antenna, with reader output power adjustable from 5 dBm to 33 dBm (±1 dB). Turn the power down to read only the shelf or carton in front of you, and up for a wide stock sweep.

Barcodes and RFID in one device

The same handheld reads 1D and 2D barcodes, for example a 13 mil EAN-13 from 70 to 610 mm and a 15 mil QR code from 55 to 410 mm. The left and right scan keys and the grip trigger can each start a barcode scan or an RFID inventory.

A 10,000 mAh battery

The removable 10,000 mAh battery gives up to 10 hours on one charge in most conditions, according to Newland. From below 5%, a full charge takes about 6 to 8 hours with the device off or asleep, so plan spare batteries for back-to-back shifts.

Android 13 with Google services

Android 13 with Google Mobile Services on a 2.2 GHz octa-core processor, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, plus microSD up to 256 GB.

Used in

  • Retail and apparel stores (RFID stock counts)
  • Warehousing and 3PL
  • Transport and logistics
  • Asset tracking in plants and offices
  • Public sector asset and file tracking

For buyers in India

Using the MT93-U in India

These are the points buyers in India ask us about the MT93-U. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.

Confirm the MT93-U's India region setting

Confirm the MT93-U's India region setting before ordering, because Newland does not say which range the India version uses. Newland lists an ETSI range of 865.6-867.6 MHz, inside India's 865-868 MHz UHF RFID band, plus FCC (902-928 MHz) and China (920-925 MHz) ranges.

Confirm power is capped at India's 2 W limit

Before ordering, confirm that the India unit's power is limited to 2 W e.r.p., and expect less than the 12 m headline range at that level. Newland rates the reader output at up to 33 dBm into a 4 dBi antenna, about 37 dBm EIRP or 3 W e.r.p. That is above India's 2 W e.r.p. limit (33 dBm e.r.p., 35.15 dBm EIRP). With this antenna, the limit works out to about 31 dBm reader output. Newland does not say how the India unit is configured.

MT93-U works on all three Indian 4G networks

The MT93-U's 4G bands cover Jio, Airtel and Vi, but there is no 5G radio. Confirm the India model's bands before ordering. Newland lists FDD bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28 and TDD bands 34, 38, 39, 40 and 41. That covers Jio (3, 5, 40), Airtel (1, 3, 8, 40, and 5 in some circles) and Vi (1, 3, 8, 40, 41).

Fine for dusty godowns and rain, not immersion

Dusty godowns and rain on a loading dock are within the MT93-U's rating, but it is not rated for immersion. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets, unlike the IP67 MT93. The MT93-U works up to 55 °C in 5-95% humidity, non-condensing, and Newland gives a minimum charging temperature of 0 °C and no upper limit.

Two shifts need a charged spare battery each

A site running two shifts should plan a charged spare battery per MT93-U. A full charge takes about 6 to 8 hours, and the battery lasts up to 10 hours. The 18 W fast-charge adapter accepts 100-240 V AC at 50-60 Hz. That covers India's 230 V and 240 V, 50 Hz mains.

Questions buyers ask

MT93-U FAQ

What is the price of the Newland MT93-U in India?

The MT93-U price depends on the accessories (cradles, spare batteries) and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

MT93 or MT93-U?

Choose the MT93-U if you need to read UHF RFID tags. It adds a pistol grip with a trigger and an Impinj E710 based UHF reader that Newland rates at 900 tags per second or more and over 12 m indoors. It weighs 665 g and is sealed to IP65. The MT93 has no UHF reader, weighs 277 g and is sealed to IP67, so it suits barcode-only work and all-day carrying. Both run Android 13 and read 1D and 2D barcodes.

Which RFID tags does the MT93-U read?

It reads and writes passive UHF tags to EPC Class 1 Gen 2, also known as ISO 18000-6C. Newland's UHF app can read and write the reserved, EPC, TID and user memory banks, filter tags, and lock or kill them with a password. Newland does not list NFC for the MT93-U; if you also need to read 13.56 MHz NFC cards, the MT93 lists NFC.

How far can it read tags?

Newland gives over 12 m indoors and over 8 m in open outdoor space, measured with an Alien 9740 tag, and up to 3 m for writing. Newland notes that real range depends on the tag and the environment, and it also falls as reader power is turned down. In India the reader must stay within 2 W e.r.p., which with this antenna is about 31 dBm, so expect less than the headline figure at that setting.

Will the MT93-U work on Jio, Airtel and Vi?

For 4G data it should. Newland's band list, FDD 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28 and TDD 34, 38, 39, 40 and 41, covers the 4G bands of all three operators. It has no 5G radio, and Newland does not list VoLTE. Confirm the India model's bands, and VoLTE if staff will make calls, before ordering.

Can it run our own inventory or WMS app?

Yes. It runs Android 13 with Google Mobile Services, so Android apps can be installed in the usual way. Newland's UHF app can pass each tag's EPC to your app as keyboard input, and barcode data can be sent the same way.

Can Allmark install the MT93-U and connect it to our software?

Yes. We install the MT93-U at your site, connect it to your ERP, warehouse or billing software (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
