Why the TC73 / TC78
The TC73 and TC78 are Zebra's TC7 Series ultra-rugged touch mobile computers. Zebra designs the TC73 for workers inside a facility and the TC78 for workers outdoors, and lists the TC73 as replacing the TC70, TC70x and TC72, and the TC78 as replacing the TC77.
Zebra rates the TC73/TC78 for repeated 3.05 m drops to concrete at room temperature, 2.4 m drops across -20 °C to 50 °C, and 2,000 tumbles at 1 m, sealed to IP65 and IP68.
The SE55 with IntelliFocus reads codes in hand and, for large labels, up to 12.2 m away; Zebra's tables give a 13 mil UPC-A up to 180 cm. The SE4770 gives a standard range of about 60 cm with a wide field of view.
The TC73 runs on Wi-Fi 6E for warehouses and plants. The TC78 adds 5G with one nano SIM and one eSIM, and dual-band GNSS, for delivery and route staff.
Removable PowerPrecision+ batteries of 4,680 mAh or 7,000 mAh, with fast charging. A BLE battery lets Zebra's Device Tracker find a device that has run flat, and the TC78 can take a Qi wireless charging battery.
The 6-inch Full HD+ screen works with gloves or a stylus and rejects water droplets. A dedicated push-to-talk button, three microphones and two speakers make it a radio and phone as well as a scanner.
Zebra rates the scan button for one million actuations, and the dual scan buttons and the optional trigger handle give staff a choice of how to scan.
