Reads barcodes on every side
The MP72 reads linear and 2D codes on the top, bottom, left, right, cashier and customer sides of an item, so cashiers pass items across without hunting for the barcode.
Zebra · In-counter multi-plane (bioptic) scanner, optional scale
Zebra's in-counter bioptic scanner for supermarket and hypermarket checkouts: it reads barcodes on every side of an item, on paper or phone screens, can include a scale, and drops into an existing bioptic cut-out.

Why the MP72 (MP7200)
The MP72 Series is Zebra's in-counter multi-plane scanner and scanner/scale; its model is the MP7200. Zebra names the MP72 Series as the replacement for the MP7000, which Zebra stopped selling on 15 September 2025.
The MP72 reads linear and 2D codes on the top, bottom, left, right, cashier and customer sides of an item, so cashiers pass items across without hunting for the barcode.
A 2.3 MP sensor with Zebra's PRZM Intelligent Imaging reads the codes on the item, and offset illumination, Zebra says, makes reflective barcodes on customers' phones and glossy packaging easier to scan.
Zebra designs the MP72 to drop into an existing bioptic checkstand cut-out with no modifications, in Short, Medium and Long lengths.
Medium and Long versions can include a scale weighing up to 15 kg in 5 g steps. Weight Guard alerts the POS when an item is not fully on the weighing surface.
Zebra's MP72 spec sheet gives 2.0 W idle and 2.75 W active (typical), and Zebra says the MP72 uses up to 50% less power than other bioptic scanners. Its lights dim when nothing is being scanned.
It works with Checkpoint and Sensormatic EAS deactivation, and its auxiliary ports take a handheld scanner, such as a Zebra DS8178, and a customer-facing scanner for coupons and phone codes.

For buyers in India
These are the points buyers in India ask us about the MP72 (MP7200). Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
Send us the cut-out size: Zebra's drawings give Short 356.2 × 295.3 mm, Medium 402.0 × 295.3 mm and Long 511.2 × 295.3 mm (±1.5 mm), with up to 103.6 mm needed below the counter.
Zebra lists the scanner-only MP72 for worldwide sale, and its scale versions for Australia, Canada and Mexico, Europe, OIML countries, Russia and the US, with no Indian approval listed. Tell us if you need the scale, and we confirm what can be supplied in the quotation.
Zebra says the air inside the checkstand next to the MP72 must not exceed 40 °C, so leave the counter's vents and fans clear.
Zebra lists paper and mobile barcodes, coupons and loyalty among the MP72's uses, so the same lane reads product barcodes and codes shown on a customer's phone.

Questions buyers ask
The MP72 (MP7200) price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.
Yes. Zebra's MP7000 support page says Zebra stopped selling the MP7000 on 15 September 2025, supports it until 15 December 2030 and names the MP72 Series as its replacement. Zebra designs the MP72 to drop into an existing bioptic cut-out, but its colour camera cables differ from the MP7000's, so tell us what is connected today.
Match the cut-out in your counter: Zebra's drawings give 356.2 mm (Short), 402.0 mm (Medium) and 511.2 mm (Long) by 295.3 mm. A scale is available only on Medium and Long. Send us the measurements and a photo of the checkstand, and we confirm the size.
It connects over USB, RS-232 or IBM 46XX over RS-485, with OPOS and JPOS drivers. A USB PowerPlus port powers it directly; a standard USB or RS-232 connection needs Zebra's power supply. Tell us the POS model and software, and we quote the right cable.
Yes. The auxiliary ports take a handheld scanner, and Zebra names the cordless DS8178 as an example; its standard cradle needs its own power supply. A customer-facing scanner can be added on either side for coupons and phone codes.
Yes. We install the MP72 (MP7200) at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
Send what you scan, where you scan it and the software it feeds; we reply with a written quotation.
