The DS3600-XR is Zebra's extended-range model in its 3600 ultra-rugged family. Zebra names it as the replacement for the DS3608-ER and DS3678-ER, which stopped selling in APAC (including India) on 30 June 2025.
Near and far with one scanner
Two image sensors cover close and long distances. A 5 mil Code 39 label reads from 3.3 cm, while a 100 mil Code 39 label reads up to 32.0 m and a 200 mil Data Matrix up to 30.5 m, so a forklift driver can scan the top rack and the carton in hand.
A green aimer you can follow at distance
A 520 nm green laser aimer marks the target, and two warm-white LEDs light the code. Zebra rates it for ambient light up to 107,639 lux, which covers outdoor yards and loading docks.
Built for docks, yards and cold rooms
Sealed to IP65 and IP68, tested for multiple 3.0 m drops to concrete at room temperature and 7,500 tumbles at 1.0 m. The corded model works from -30 °C to 50 °C and the cordless model from -20 °C to 50 °C.
A full shift on one battery
The cordless DS3678-XR uses a 3,100 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery rated for 80,000 scans per charge, which Zebra puts at 23 hours or more of continuous scanning. Its Class 1 Bluetooth 4.0 LE link has a minimum 100 m line-of-sight range, and Zebra's FLB charging cradle is sealed to IP65.
Connects to systems and machines
Zebra lists USB, RS232 and keyboard wedge. For PLCs and line controllers, Zebra's Network Connect for Automation adds industrial Ethernet (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP) through a separate adapter.
Set up and managed with Zebra DNA
Configure it with 123Scan, manage fleets with Scanner Management Service and build apps with the Scanner SDK. Allmark can connect it to your WMS or ERP, including our own warehouse management system, and set it up on site.

Using the DS3600-XR in India
These are the points buyers in India ask us about the DS3600-XR. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
Below -20 °C, choose the corded DS3608-XR
For a freezer run colder than -20 °C, choose the corded DS3608-XR: Zebra rates it down to -30 °C, and the cordless DS3678-XR down to -20 °C.
Charge the cordless XR outside the cold room
Put the DS3678-XR cradle in the ante-room or office, not inside the freezer. Zebra's reference guide says to charge the battery at 0 °C to 40 °C, ideally 5 °C to 35 °C, to avoid a battery temperature fault. The scanner works at -20 °C, but a cradle inside a -18 °C freezer is outside that charging range. The same limit applies at the hot end: on a dock above 40 °C, the battery is outside its charging range.
Expect window condensation when leaving a cold store
Expect moisture on the housing and scan window when a scanner leaves a cold store; Zebra recommends its heated scanner holder to reduce window condensation when moving in and out of freezers. Zebra rates the DS3600-XR for 5-95% humidity, non-condensing, and seals the housing to IP65 and IP68.
Both XR models work up to 50 °C on summer docks
Keep the scanner out of direct sun on forklift seats and dock plates, where it gets hotter than the air. Both DS3600-XR models are rated to work up to 50 °C and to be stored up to 70 °C.
Quote the India & Korea XR codes; 230 V supply
Quote Zebra's 'India & Korea' configurations when ordering: DS3608-XR60003VZK (corded) and DS3678-XR6F003VZK (cordless), as listed in its reference guide. Where the host cannot power the cradle, Zebra's 12 V supply PWR-BGA12V50W0WW is rated for 100-240 V AC input, which covers India's 230 V mains.

Exploring for a different use?
If your job differs from what the DS3600-XR is built for, these Zebra models may fit it better:
Buyers who only read labels within arm's reach and want more scans per charge often look at the
Zebra DS3678-SR (100,000+ scans per charge against 80,000 on the XR).
Buyers who read codes as small as 3 mil on boards and components often look at the
Zebra DS3608-HD (Code 128 3 mil at 5.1-7.6 cm).
Quote the part number for your DS3600-XR in your enquiry and we confirm the exact part. These are Zebra's own codes; if you do not have yours, send a photo of the device's rating label.

Should we buy the DS3608-ER / DS3678-ER or the DS3600-XR?
Zebra stopped selling the DS3608-ER and DS3678-ER in APAC, which includes India, on 30 June 2025, and names the DS3600-XR as the replacement. Zebra support for the ER models continues until October 2030, so existing units can stay in use. For new purchases, the XR adds a second far-range sensor, a green laser aimer and longer reach on large labels, and it is lighter.
How far can the DS3600-XR read a barcode?
It depends on the label size. Zebra's typical ranges are 3.3 cm to 3.7 m for a 13 mil UPC-A, up to 26.7 m for a 100 mil Code 128, up to 32.0 m for a 100 mil Code 39 and up to 30.5 m for a 200 mil Data Matrix. Include your rack heights and label sizes in your quote request.
Should we choose the corded DS3608-XR or the cordless DS3678-XR?
Choose the corded DS3608-XR for fixed workstations, packing lines and the coldest areas, as it works down to -30 °C. Choose the cordless DS3678-XR for forklifts and walking pickers: it works down to -20 °C, gives up to 80,000 scans per charge and connects over Bluetooth with a minimum 100 m line-of-sight range.
Can the DS3600-XR be used in cold storage and outdoor yards?
Yes, within its ratings. Zebra rates the scanner IP65 and IP68, tests it for repeated 3.0 m drops to concrete and 7,500 tumbles, and rates it for ambient light up to 107,639 lux. For a freezer run colder than -20 °C, choose the corded DS3608-XR, rated to -30 °C. The cordless DS3678-XR is rated to -20 °C and its battery charges at 0-40 °C, so keep its cradle outside the freezer.
Can Allmark install the DS3600-XR and connect it to our software?
Yes. We install the DS3600-XR at your site, set it to send data the way your ERP, warehouse or billing software expects (our own warehouse management system included) and train your team. Tell us the software when you ask for a quote, and we include the setup in the quotation.
