Quick answer

Two questions decide it

1. How wide is your label?

Up to 2 inches (56 mm print width): ZD411 or ZD611. Up to 4 inches (104 mm at 203 dpi; 106 mm on the 300 dpi ZD421 and 108 mm on the 300 dpi ZD621): ZD421 or ZD621. A 4 × 6 inch courier label needs a 4-inch model.

2. Standard or premium?

The ZD421 and ZD411 print up to 6 inches per second and connect by USB, with Wi-Fi and Ethernet as add-ons. The ZD621 and ZD611 print up to 8 inches per second, have Ethernet built in (the ZD621 has serial too), offer a colour touch screen, and come in RFID and linerless versions.

Only on the ZD421: a ribbon cartridge

The ZD421 is the only one of the four sold with a ribbon-cartridge version: a 74 m ribbon, 109.2 mm wide, in a cartridge instead of a loose roll.

Which model for which job

Each job below names which of the ZD411, ZD421, ZD611 and ZD621 suits it.

Courier and e-commerce labels (4 × 6 inch)

Both 4-inch models print them. Choose the ZD621 if you print all day: at 8 inches per second it needs about 0.75 seconds per label.

What does the premium model add?

What the ZD621 and ZD611 add

ZD421 or ZD621?

The ZD621 prints faster (8 against 6 inches per second at 203 dpi, 6 against 4 at 300 dpi), has Ethernet and serial ports built in, offers a colour touch screen, and comes in RFID and linerless versions. At 300 dpi it also prints a little wider (108 mm against 106 mm). The ZD421 is lighter (1.35 kg against 1.6 kg, direct thermal) and is the only one with a ribbon cartridge. If USB and 6 inches per second are enough, the ZD421 does the job.

ZD411 or ZD611?

The same choice in the 2-inch size. The ZD611 prints faster (8 against 6 inches per second at 203 dpi), has Ethernet built in, shows a colour touch screen on its thermal transfer and RFID models, and comes in RFID and linerless versions. Both print up to 56 mm wide and take the same 74 m ribbon.

2-inch or 4-inch?

Go by your widest label. The 2-inch models take media from 15 to 60 mm wide; the 4-inch models take up to 108 mm (direct thermal) or 112-118 mm (thermal transfer). A 4-inch printer prints small labels too, but the 2-inch models take less desk space.

For buyers in India

Heat, power and Indian labels

Hot rooms

All four are rated to run between 4.4 °C and 41 °C. In summer, rooms without air conditioning in the plains can pass 40 °C, so keep the printer away from direct sun and hot walls.

Indian mains and power cuts

All four run on 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz, so they work on Indian 230 V mains without a converter. Zebra lists an optional 2,750 mAh battery for each (ask us about supply in India); Zebra says the ZD621's lasts a full shift at top speed.

Hindi, Tamil and other scripts

Zebra describes the ZD411, ZD421 and ZD621 as Unicode compliant with native OpenType font support, but lists no Indian-script font. To print Hindi or Tamil, load and test a licensed font, or let your label software send that text as an image. Approve a printed sample first.

Questions buyers ask

ZD421 vs ZD621 questions

What is the price of the Zebra ZD421 and ZD621 in India?

It depends on the version (direct thermal, ribbon roll, cartridge, healthcare or RFID), the resolution, options such as Wi-Fi or a cutter, and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.

Which one is better for courier labels?

Both print 4 × 6 inch courier labels. The ZD421 is enough for everyday dispatch over USB. The ZD621 is the better choice for a busy dispatch desk: it is faster and connects to your network out of the box.

Can I add Wi-Fi or Ethernet to a ZD421 later?

Yes. Ethernet and Wi-Fi can be fitted at the factory or added later as a module, and serial in the field. On the ZD621, Ethernet and serial are already built in.

Which models print RFID labels?

Only the ZD611R and ZD621R. The ZD411 and ZD421 have no RFID version.

Do they use the same labels and ribbons?

All four take label rolls up to 127 mm across. The 4-inch ZD421 and ZD621 take 300 m or 74 m ribbons; the 2-inch ZD411 and ZD611 take 74 m ribbons up to 58 mm wide. Tell us the model and label, and we will quote matching labels and ribbons.

Not sure which one? Send us your label

Tell us the label size, how many you print a day and what software you use. We will tell you which model fits and quote it with labels and ribbons.
