Polyimide labels

The label film for circuit boards and heat

Zebra rates its own polyimide labels up to 260 °C, against about 150 °C for its gloss polyester and 121 °C for its polypropylene, and recommends polyimide for printed circuit-board (PCB) labels.

Zebra lists polyimide for electronics and automotive work where chemicals, heat and abrasion are common.

Rated up to 260 °C (Zebra's own)

Zebra rates its own polyimide labels up to 260 °C, against about 150 °C for its gloss polyester.

Readable through reflow

Zebra notes its polyimide labels stay readable through curing, drying or reflow.

Made for PCBs and parts

Uses

What polyimide labels go through

Uses Zebra gives for its own polyimide labels.

PCB labels

Labels on printed circuit boards, the use Zebra recommends polyimide for.

Consider: Resin ribbons

Components through curing, drying or reflow

Zebra notes its polyimide labels stay readable through curing, drying or reflow, so the barcode can follow the part through the line.

Electronics and automotive parts

For parts that meet chemicals and abrasion as well as heat.

Compare by heat

Polyimide, polyester and polypropylene by heat

How Zebra rates its own films for heat.

Film Heat (Zebra) Where Zebra uses it Ribbon
Polyimide Up to 260 °C; short peaks of 300 °C for up to 5 minutes or 90 seconds, by grade Circuit-board labels Resin
Gloss polyester (PET) About 150 °C UL/cUL product labels, asset labels, automotive, serial plates Resin
Polypropylene (PP) Up to 121 °C Chemical drums, product ID, automotive Resin

Figures are Zebra's ratings for Zebra's own labels: the continuous ratings from Zebra's supplies selector guide (02/2025, US edition, read 2026-10-09), the short peaks for two Zebra polyimide grades from Zebra's Asia-Pacific labels page (consulted 2026-10-18). The material in your quotation has its own rating. About our product information.

Name the process

Tell us the heat the label goes through, its peak temperature and for how long. Zebra notes that for demanding conditions the label material and ribbon must be carefully matched.

Pair it with a resin ribbon

Zebra pairs resin ribbons with synthetic films, and says its 5095 resin ribbon resists harsh chemicals, solvents and high temperatures. Barcode ribbons.

Slower is sharper

On film labels such as polyimide, Zebra notes text and barcodes suffer above about 6 inches per second.

Questions buyers ask

Polyimide labels: common questions

What temperature can a polyimide label take?

Zebra rates its own polyimide labels up to 260 °C, and two of its grades for short peaks of 300 °C for up to 5 minutes or 90 seconds. Send your process and its peak temperature; we confirm the material in the quotation.

Which ribbon goes with polyimide labels?

A resin ribbon, as Zebra pairs resin with synthetic films. We quote the label and the ribbon together.

Do polyimide labels survive reflow?

Zebra says its polyimide labels do: they stay readable through curing, drying or reflow. Tell us your process and we confirm the material in the quotation.
