Why the Soldier180
The Soldier180 is Newland's compact industrial fixed-mount scanner. It fits inside machines, test jigs and narrow stations, and reads 1D and 2D codes as parts or packs pass. It comes in two series, the Soldier180W and the 2-megapixel Soldier180E, each in a standard and a long-distance version.
The housing measures 45 × 59.2 × 25 mm and weighs 185 g, with mounting holes on two sides. The data and Ethernet cables leave through short leads, so the scanner can sit close to a fixture.
The Soldier180W uses a 1280 × 960 sensor and the Soldier180E a 1600 × 1200 sensor. The standard (NP) version sees 38° × 28.7° for large or scattered codes; the long-distance (SP) version narrows to 15.2° × 11.3° for small codes further away.
A liquid lens focuses automatically. Every version reads from 40 mm; the long-distance versions reach 1,500 mm (W) or 2,000 mm (E). The Soldier180E resolves 1D codes down to 0.613 mil.
Newland pairs AI algorithms with on-board image processing to read codes on low-contrast or cluttered backgrounds and to pick out several codes in one image. Motion tolerance is 2 m/s.
Besides RS-232, TCP/IP, UDP and FTP, it supports Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and MELSEC/SLMP. Two trigger inputs and two outputs (good read and no read) connect it to a photo-eye, a reject gate or a stack light.
Four high-intensity red LEDs with a half polariser come as standard. Soldier180W versions offer white, blue, ultraviolet or infrared LEDs as options, and a diffuser, reflector and magnifier are sold as accessories.

For buyers in India
These are the points buyers in India ask us about the Soldier180. Mention the ones that apply to you when you request a quote.
The Soldier180 suits dusty and wet lines, but not a place where it could sit under water. IP65 means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. Dust from machining, cement or flour, and splashes during cleaning, are within the rating. It is not rated for immersion, so keep it out of tanks and wash-down troughs; the IP67 Soldier300 is the Newland option there. Newland publishes no drop or impact rating, so fit it where carriers and cartons cannot strike it.
Check the temperature where the Soldier180 will be mounted: inside a closed machine near motors, heaters or sealing jaws, the air can run hotter than the room. Newland rates the scanner to work from -20 °C to 50 °C and in 5-95% humidity, non-condensing, which matters near chilled rooms.
A 24 V cabinet supply can feed several Soldier180s; five draw at most 1 A. The scanner accepts 24 V DC ±10%, that is 21.6 V to 26.4 V, and draws at most 200 mA when operating: 24 × 0.2 = 4.8 W, with 70 mA on standby. For bench use, Newland's AD36-DB-B adapter (24 V, 1.5 A) takes 100-240 V AC, covering India's 230 V and 240 V supplies.
The standard Soldier180 covers a field about 325 mm wide at 472 mm and about 689 mm wide at 1,000 mm. Its 38° horizontal view gives a field about 2 × distance × tan 19° wide, which matches Newland's own range table. At 2 m/s, 120 m per minute, a code stays in a 325 mm field for about 0.16 s. For faster lines, Newland's Soldier300 is rated to 3 m/s.

Questions buyers ask
The Soldier180 price depends on the cable or accessories you need and the quantity. Ask our team for today's competitive price: share your requirement and budget, and we will help you choose the right configuration and send a written quotation with current pricing and delivery time.
Both share the same 185 g IP65 housing, interfaces and 24 V power. The Soldier180E has the higher-resolution 1600 × 1200 sensor, resolves 1D codes down to 0.613 mil and reads up to 2,000 mm in its long-distance version. The Soldier180W uses a 1280 × 960 sensor, reads up to 1,500 mm, and is the series that offers white, blue, ultraviolet or infrared lighting as an option.
The standard version has a 38° × 28.7° view, so it covers a wide area close to the scanner: about 325 mm across at 472 mm. The long-distance version narrows the view to 15.2° × 11.3° and reaches further, for small codes read from a distance. Both start reading at 40 mm. Send us your code size, distance and line speed with your enquiry.
Yes. The Soldier180 has two short leads of about 200 mm: an Ethernet lead that carries Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and MELSEC/SLMP, as well as TCP/IP, UDP and FTP, and a data lead for RS-232. The data lead also carries two trigger inputs (rated up to ±30 V) for a photo-eye or PLC signal and two outputs for good read and no read, at up to 50 mA each. Tell us your PLC model when you ask for a quote.
Choose the Soldier180 when space is tight: it is 45 × 59.2 × 25 mm and 185 g, and draws at most 200 mA at 24 V. Choose the Soldier300 for wet areas, fast lines or long distances: it is sealed to IP67 rather than IP65, tolerates 3 m/s rather than 2 m/s, reads codes down to 15% contrast rather than 25%, and reaches up to 3,000 mm.
A 24 V DC supply (24 V ±10%) that can deliver up to 200 mA. Newland sells a 24 V, 1.5 A adapter (AD36-DB-B), a 3 m cable from the data lead to DB9, I/O and DC power, and 5 m or 10 m Ethernet cables. On the scanner, a long press of TUNE runs focus and auto-learning, and TRIG starts a test read; NSet software covers the rest. The frame ground wire must be earthed.
